Dear New Cambridge Loft (NCL) residents,
We would like to issue a friendly reminder not to flush certain household items down the drain pipes. EPCOR has such items listed here: https://www.epcor.com/learn/efficiency-conservation/inside-your-home/bathroom/Pages/flush.aspx
Fats, oils, and grease should never be poured down the drains. They should be poured into disposable containers and then be placed in the garbage. Also, please do not put egg shells down the drain.
Items, such as dental floss, "flushable" baby wipes, cleaning wipes, disposable diapers, and cotton swabs, should never be flushed down the toilet. These products are also bad for sewer pipes and can lead to clogging.
As for the bathtub drain, please use a catcher like the one found here: https://www.amazon.ca/SinkShroom-Revolutionary-Bathroom-Protector-Strainer/dp/B076QDB6QZ . Things going down the bathtub drain remains the number one cause of clogging at NCL.
Additionally, it is recommended that you do not run your dishwasher or washing machine if you are not home, as there is a risk of them leaking.
Also we recommend that residents frequently check their units for signs of leaking. But for those who are unable to, you may consider investing in some water sensors and/or alarms. Here is a link to some that are available https://www.safety.com/water-leak-detectors/ These alarms and sensors can be placed near toilets, dishwashers, hot water tanks, under the sink, etc. to alert you about leaks in your unit
The NCL building represents one of the largest vertical communities in Edmonton so a leak in your unit will have an immediate effect on a number of other units.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Management on behalf of The New Cambridge Lofts Board
